Skills and Technical background of InDepthInSight.com
Dr James Tweedie
of GeoMEM has been involved in many aspects of software development,
exploration work and borehole surveying for over 25 years. Borehole surveying experience
started in 1980-82 when using the old REFLEX Fotobor system to survey exploration holes in the
North West of Scotland. Biographic info
Barry Carr,
contract developer for GeoMEM, has developed software for some of the best known companies in the UK
covering a wide range of business sectors, including: Chemical; Pharmaceutical; Oil and Gas; Banking; Accounting;
Legal Accounting; Public Sector and now Mining and Geology.

Geological and industry software design and development
In 1985 GeoMEM developed and marketed one of the first (DOS-based) borehole logging programs
(called DRILLOG). Other early DOS based software development included Soil Analysis software,
Rock Sample processing software, and a barcode based core logging application (the Field Data System).
In 1996 a separate company (Field Data Systems Ltd.) headed by James Tweedie
and Ron Dougill (ex Datamine and Gemcom) gained a UK Government SMART award to investigate and
develop the concept of an entirely voice-based logging system.
Borehole survey software systems design and development
Between 1989 and 2001 GeoMEM Consultants (now GeoMEM Ltd.) were the sole developers of the control,
processing and display software for all REFLEX INSTRUMENT survey tools (including the Maxibor and EMS
systems).
With Chardec Consultants (now Chardec Technology) GeoMEM formed part of the
small design and development team that developed the innovative and easy-to-use, hi tech borehole
survey systems for both REFLEX INSTRUMENT (now part of the IMDEX group) and, from 1999, the FLEXIT
borehole survey instrument company.
The combination of field exploration and borehole surveying experience and software development
expertise helped to develop robust, user-friendly (and in particular field-user-friendly) systems
using the technologies available at the time. Many of the data quality checking and analysis methodologies
now used in the survey processing software were developed within GeoMEM.
Technical support and troubleshoooting
In parallel with system design and development GeoMEM provided (and continue to provide)
a quick support and troubleshooting service for customers of both REFLEX and FLEXIT around the
world - again using the technologies available at the time. This support, direct from the developers
of the software is fairly unique in the IT world and enhanced the reputations of REFLEX and FLEXIT for
good support response with the users of their instruments.
GeoMEM are now offering this fund of expertise, knowledge and experience to end users of
these systems through their InDepthInSight.com and DirectSupport service.
